Testimonial

As a Freelance Filmmaker myself, I have struggled to find a “blueprint” or “how to” guide to what all goes into a wedding video shoot. Not only is your guide great inside information for me, but will also allow me to sound like the professional when speaking with the wedding client. Your well thought out and thorough analysis of your specific game plan not only is going to help me, but whoever is in the same frustration of “Where do I begin?”. This was money well spent. I am now looking forward to attacking this “Wedding Film Project” with confidence instead of fear.

Welcome! Do you want to get started in the world of wedding filmmaking? Maybe you're just starting to learn video. Maybe you've shot a casual wedding video for a friend, enjoyed it, and want to figure out how to do more. Or maybe you want to start a full-fledged business and make it a career!

So you're here on the internet checking out how you're going to get this thing up and running. You watch YouTube videos, read articles, and research the latest and greatest video gear. You spend hours taking in all kinds of information. Wouldn’t it be great to get great information on wedding filmmaking while at the same time actively crafting a plan of attack to get this thing started?

This is where The Beginner's Guide to Wedding Filmmaking comes in. I've created a 50-page, interactive PDF guide that will give you a foundation to kickstart your wedding videography journey. You'll gain valuable knowledge, increase your confidence, and cultivate practical action steps to move forward toward your wedding filmmaking goals.

You can find the table of contents below so you have an idea of what we’ll be going over together. After each section within the guide, there are reflection questions and areas for you to type or write out your answers and other thoughts on that particular subject. Once you've gotten through the material, you'll have the opportunity to create action steps based on the foundations you set in your reflections. There are also links to my YouTube tutorials within the guide to supplement and reinforce the content.

This is a great resource for active learning and decision-making. You won't just be taking in information, but you'll be guided through making practical and actionable decisions about how you're going to start, grow, and improve as a wedding filmmaker.

The hope is that you would have increased confidence, knowledge, clarity, and direction to start your journey as a wedding filmmaker – whether your goal is a hobby, side hustle, or a full-time career.

See you in the guide!

Why Should I Choose This Guide?

I know you can pretty much find anything you'd ever want to know just through a simple Google or YouTube search, so I by no means have the expectation that you couldn't find this information anywhere on the Internet. My hope is that this guide would bring everything together into a cohesive document that you can participate in and interact with.

You'll be able to zero in on your purpose, goals, thoughts, what needs practiced, what needs planned, what needs purchased, who needs to be contacted, things to remember on the wedding day, etc. Then you'll be able to go back to your completed guide and easily review information, edit your action steps, gain new insight, and be reminded of your goals. This is more difficult to do when reading and watching various articles and videos online. Don't hear my say those other articles and videos are unnecessary - I actually want them to be a part of your long-term process.

This guide is not 100% exhaustive of everything there is to know about wedding filmmaking, and I hope it will actually be a launching pad for you to figure out what you do and don't have a good grasp on, and what you need to do about it. If you need more information on a particular subject, then by all means get on YouTube/Google and figure it out! But when I was first starting out, it would have been amazing to have a foundational document where I could’ve learned what I needed to know and what I needed to do to get started successfully.

If you've done plenty of weddings already, then this guide probably isn't for you! If you’re new to wedding filmmaking or want to break into the industry, then this will be a fantastic investment!

About The Author

Hi everybody! Jordan Nelson here! I've been shooting wedding films since May of 2017 and have booked over 30 weddings since that time. A few months before my very first wedding, I was using fully automatic camera settings, only used iMovie, and had the world’s smallest equipment budget (we had over $100,000 in student loan debt and I was working for a non-profit, so you get the point). By the end of 2019, I will have supplemented my full-time income with over $40,000 from wedding videography alone since I started in 2017. I’ve also been featured in Rangefinder Magazine about shooting wedding films solo!

This isn’t to brag, but if you’re going to spend money on a guide like this, you probably want to make sure the person writing it has had some sort of success in the field, right?! Additionally, I hope my example shows that even if you’re starting off with very little experience or equipment, it’s absolutely possible to grow your business (if that’s your goal) in a relatively short amount of time.

I’ve learned so much in the past couple years and have fresh perspective on successfully getting started as a wedding filmmaker. If you have any questions or feedback on the guide, I’d love to hear from you! You can check out my contact page to hit me up!

I’m also a Bradley University alum with a degree in Communications, a current grad student at Missouri State University, and a full-time marketing coordinator. I live in Peoria, IL with my beautiful wife, Jessica. She’s the best :)
